Home Made Deodorant & Other Adventures

Today my best friend came over and helped me make deodorant. It was so easy and I’ve been wearing it for about 10 hours now and am still feeling fresh 🙂 Here’s how you do it!

1/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup corn starch, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 20+ drops of your preferred essential oil.

add the baking soda, corn starch and coconut oil into a bowl and mix until it starts getting smooth and pasty. add in the essential oil to make it smell nice, i used red mandarin. mix well. transfer into your glass/metal container (I used baby food jars). DONE!

you just apply it to your armpits like you would with any lotion, and it’s that easy! here’s the link to the online tutorial!

Today my second child turned 4 months old and to celebrate we used the last of the disposable diapers in our house and are 100% cloth diapering from here on out! Yay!! Also, once we run out of wipes we will be using cloths and water instead. This could take awhile tho as I have half a box of Costco wipes/packages left lol.

We have been forgoing baby shampoo/wash completely now for about 2 weeks and only using oatmeal/coconut oil baths for the baby. I’m hoping her skin will clear up soon and I won’t have to make even more drastic diet changes than I already have!

Last but not least, today we got signed up for our weekly CSA box from Pitchfork Organic Farm!  I am SO excited to be getting fresh, organic, local produce delivered to my door every week starting at the end of this month 🙂 The owner, Jeremy, seems like such an awesome guy and has been very accommodating since I first inquired about getting the CSA box. I think they are all booked up and have no spots left for this year, but there are a few other local farms that have CSA boxes available so if you’re interested, check it out with your trusty friend google!

Below is a picture that my lovely and like minded friend posted the other day which inspires me to continue sharing my “green” changes with others and not get let down by those who don’t care or think I’m crazy 😛

    Thanks for this Jessy!!!
I can’t wait to try this “armpit candy” need to pick up a couple ingredients for it still.
I have recently just switched from baby soaps and shampoos for myself and the kids as there shampoo (johnsons stuff) has started giving them dry scalp on the baby it looks almost like cradle cap. (sooooo gross!!!). So for 2 days now i have been using baking soda and water with some tea tree in it, wow what a difference. I love it in my hair too.So i am not going back.
