Playland Fun ~ Eco Friendly Version :)

A couple weeks ago the family and I went to Playland (an amusement park with rides, food vendors, games, etc) and had a great day! It can be really hard to avoid temptation and stay eco-friendly when you go to such exciting places so I thought I’d share a few things that we did to keep our footprints a bit “greener” 🙂

*Carpooled with a friend (me & the kids did) and hubby took transit and met us there.

*Packed our own vegetarian lunches in our wicker picnic basket 🙂 Sandwiches in paper bags, veggies and dip in glass containers, fruit and some crackers.

*Brought our steel canteens filled with water to re-fill throughout the day.

*Hubby was tempted to get a pop so he had his steel canteen filled so no cup/straw/lid was wasted.

*Brought my own stove popped organic popcorn in paper bags so we would not have to be tempted to get the GMO crappy kind that can be found everywhere. (I also bring my own when I go to movies!)

*Re-used my paper bags to get some of those deliciously evil mini doughnuts as a treat.

*Stayed later than we expected and needed some dinner so bought a veggie burger to share and some fries. Not the most healthy but not the worst either!

*Limited our “game” playing to one game, as those stuffed animals they give for prizes are horrible (for the planet and for us!)

All in all, it was a great time and we were there from open until close. I can’t wait to take the kids again next year!

McLympics

It’s no secret that I hate the Olympics. So much that I thought it deserved to be blogged about 🙂 I am 100% thankful that it is OVER!! Anyone else who hates them too should check out one of my new favorite groups Anti Olympics Alliance 2012 on facebook 🙂

Someday, I’ll keep hoping, there might come a day when people realize just how little good comes from these games and put an end to them. Unfortunately, some of the biggest and most evil corporations are funding the Olympics so I doubt that will happen… unless more people wake the $#%& up and stop funding and supporting THOSE evil corporations. Vicious cycle much? I think so!

Sure some could argue that it brings countries together, gives something for people to hope/dream for, supports exercise, and a bunch of other really not important in the grand scheme of things stuff… But could we not find a much more positive, less wasteful, less corrupt way to get exercise and bring people together?? How about picking up garbage, planting trees, spreading awareness about global issues…

My hugest beef with this whole thing has got to be how much time, money, effort and resources get spent on these games. Really people, they are just games! Billions of people are starving, diseased, homeless… Forests are being torn down at alarming rates all over the world, oceans are being decimated by pollution and over fishing, hundreds of thousands of species are going extinct each year at the hands of our all-powerful race… but we need to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on these games? Stay glued to our TVs while they’re on and talk about nothing else?

People need to get their heads out of their asses and get their priorities straight or there won’t be an earth left to play these pointless games on!!

Here’s a few pics I’ve collected recently… one is of an Olympic Gold Medalist who is a very proud, very ignorant trophy hunter, another is of the extreme punishment or should I say “training” that little children in China have to go through in order to get ready for the games that are so all important… another is a picture of some of the wonderful companies you are supporting when you support the Olympics… and a few others just for fun. Enjoy!

DIY Vegetarian Pizza <3

Why oh why have I waited 26.5 years to try making my own pizza? OMG So easy, healthy and delicious!

Since becoming a vegetarian I have not missed meat at all. Honestly! I’ve lost weight, gained energy and positivity, and have been enjoying new kinds of food all the time! I remember getting meatlovers pizzas in the past and now I cringe thinking about all of that grease, dead animal and unhealthiness!

In case you’re wondering what else (besides meat) you’d add to a pizza, here are some great things to try!

My personal favorites: Spinach, Tomato, Red/Yellow/Orange Peppers, Basil Leaves, Artichoke Hearts, Yellow/Red Onions, Roasted or Fresh Garlic and all different kinds of cheeses!!

Other toppings : Veggie Ground Round, Olives, Zucchini, Pineapple, Mushrooms, Green Peppers and Hot Peppers.

Here’s the super easy and awesome recipe I used for my pizza crust:

2.5 cups organic whole wheat flour

.5 cup ground flax

1.5 tablespoon yeast

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon organic sugar

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup warm water

mix dry ingredients in a bowl, add wet ingredients and mix til its in a ball, spread it out on a greased cookie sheet, top with whatever you desire and bake on 375 for 10-15 mins, then broil for 5 mins.

Below are pictures of my awesome creation tonight ❤ (fresh basil leaves, dried oregano, tomatoes, red pepper, marinated artichoke hearts, yellow onions, fresh garlic, mozza & feta cheese! OM NOM NOM NOM!!
